I’ve sorted my pupillage finally. I guess it was high time I got round to it. Really looking forward to a new environment. Kinda bored with the current lifestyle. I think a change would do me good. Need to break this habit of doing nothing all day. Feel like a kid from that Portlandia Dream of the 90’s video.

Have been really craving some british chinese dishes for a while now. I’ve only been able to find these dishes in UK chinese restaurants for some reason and not anywhere else.
Bacon Asparagus Rolls in Charsiu Sauce Recipe: (叉燒煙肉蘆筍捲)
4 strips of bacon
1 small pack of thin asparagus
1 tablespoon of charsiu sauce (叉燒醬)
Wrap the bacons around a couple of shoots of asparagus. Fry it on one side, and flip. When the meat is beginning to char, add the charsiu sauce and turn the heat down for it to caramelise.
Crab and Sweetcorn Soup Recipe: (蟹肉玉米湯)

1 can of creamed corn
5 crab sticks
1 large egg
1 tablespoon of corn flour
1 cube of chicken stock
white pepper

When the pot is bubbling at its hottest, pour the egg in while sieving with a fork. Mix the corn flour with some water to form corn starch. Add in the starch slowly, ensuring to not ever thickening it. Add pepper to taste.

I almost shit myself the other day when I was heading into town. Came across this monitor lizard which I swear was a baby Komodo dragon. It was as long as the breadth of my car. It strutted across the road like it was a boss and didn’t even bother to speed up. Like a boss.
Its CNY eve tomorrow and I’m glad I’ve already had yu sang (魚生) twice already. For most non-malaysians, I’d find it surprising if they came across this dish, lest they’re from Singapore. Looking forward to collecting more money this year since its the first year since yonks that I’ve been able to celebrate in KL. Not done so in about 10 years. Looking forward to a good one.

A personal favourite breakfast / lunch food. Decided I wanted something very chinese, and got my favourite condiments for it. I like to power pack it with dried scallops for that rich flavour.
Scallop Porridge Recipe:
20 small dried scallops
1 teaspoon of chicken stock
1/4 teaspoon of sugar
1/2 cup of rice
20 cups of water
Soak the dried scallops over night. Add all ingredients into the pot. Boil for 2 hours.

Believe me. This would do wonders if you’re ill as it has a very strong flavour. The condiments are pretty light as well. Salted egg. Fried egg with chinese pickled cabbage, and some luncheon meat with bacon bits.
Just when I was about to sort my CV out completely, I’ve come down with this horrible flu with horrible joint aches. Its really annoying. I wish it would just go away. Can’t wait for these dog days to be over.
